Matthew 18: 21-35

 Refusing to forgive others reveals that we have yet to believe how much we have been mercifully forgiven.  Forgiveness is not excusing the offense, not forgetting about it, not sweeping it under the rug; but it is absorbing the offense and taking the loss yourself.  There is no gospel without forgiveness, and we will not experience God's forgiveness if we do not forgive others from our hearts.  Jesus is not only our example, but he made the way for forgiveness to be possible; it is by his merciful power that we can forgive, too.
